Binatbatan; Kasiyahan ng mga Bigueñong Mamamayan

The City of Vigan is home to multiple festivals, and the Binatbatan Festival is one of them. Imagine a street filled with joyful people, bright colors everywhere, loud sounds of music, drums, and cheers in the air. That is Binatbatan for you. It is one of the most colorful and alive festivals that the City of Vigan could offer.

Binatbatan is not only a festival made out of dancing and widespread celebrations. It is also made of rich history and culture. Binatbatan Festival has its origins with the City of Vigan's abel weaving business and traditions, which existed even long before the Spaniards arrived to colonize the Philippines. "Binatbatan" comes from the word "bat bat," a tool that's comprised of two bamboo sticks used to separate cotton pods from trees. Abel is very dear to us Ilocanos because it contains and shows the rich history and culture that the City of Vigan has. They show this appreciation through the festival, proudly showing off the different works of the Bigueños for the people to see and enjoy.

The Binatbatan Festival isn't only an ordinary festival made to celebrate a city's history with abel making. It is more like a love letter, showing deep appreciation and care for the City of Vigan's rich history and culture.
