Christmas Cheer

Christmas. What is Christmas? To some, Christmas is just the day where we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To others, it's just a big holiday where you have the opportunity to give and receive gifts from friends and families. But to me, Christmas is an experience. Why? You may ask? Well, there's this thing called "Christmas Cheer" it is a term used frequently by people who believe that December is truly the season to be jolly. When you feel the cold breeze, when you hear the jingle bells begin to jingle, you get a sense of excitement, warmth, and nostalgia. Christmas also gives us hope, the very thing that all of us need right now.

With what's happening all around us, the pandemic, the injustices, and all the heartbreak. The hope, love, and joy that Christmas brings will surely help us cope with it and overcome it. The pandemic forcing us to observe physical distancing just only made us more resilient, digital-wise. We may not meet with our friends and families physically, but we can meet them digitally. We may not be able to buy groceries and gifts physically but, we can order them online. All that I've said means that no matter whatever is thrown at us, the pandemic, the disasters, heartbreaks, and more, we will always rise, come back stronger, and fight back.

Christmas will help us realize that the solution is ourselves. We need to find our Christmas spirit, our hope, our hope that will help us and guide us through this. Because what's the point of fighting if we didn't have hope, right? Besides, this isn't the first time when Christmas will give us hope. The Rebuilding of the Philippines after the typhoon Haiyan in 2013, the Christmas truce in 1914, and the Christmas during the Blitz in 1940 proves that even on days when it feels like the sun won't shine on us again, Christmas will give us the light, the hope and will to come together and overcome whatever we're facing. That's enough evidence that the pandemic isn't stopping us from spreading the Christmas Cheer.
