The year 2020 started with a bang, COVID-19 had given the world a new set of challenges to deal with. Most countries have responded to the COVID-19 by immediately resulting to restricting travel and implementing a lockdown or quarantine to help stop or at least slow down the spread of the virus. The quarantines brought the world into a shock because school was brought to a halt, businesses were forced to close, and socializing physically was no longer an option. The COVID-19 pandemic ever since it started in early 2020 has never failed to give us never-ending heartbreak and hardships. Hayst, this ongoing pandemic is a pain, am I right? Haha!

Let’s talk about the resiliency of the Philippines in response to the current pandemic. Yes, the Philippines is one of the countries that implemented quarantine but I think that we could’ve implemented it much sooner. Our responses to combat the COVID-19 pandemic were too slow to have a huge impact to minimize its effects on us. Compared to other countries, they acted hastily but wisely, unlike the Philippines. The government decided to result in more draconian measures, most of the budget was invested in the military instead of our healthcare, where it matters the most. They opted to treat this pandemic as some sort of war towards the COVID-19 pandemic by involving the military to enforce really strict and harsh rules. Despite all these measures, the pandemic is still ever-growing but at least some of them helped at least slow down the growth and spread of the pandemic. But, I also think this is a war, a fight, not towards the COVID-19 pandemic, but ourselves. I think this is a war towards ourselves because the problem starts with us. We need more discipline, heart, determination, and unity to successfully overcome this pandemic.

We could achieve a more resilient Philippines by improving our discipline and unity. Improving our discipline and unity is a must because we have a bigger enemy than the pandemic, ourselves. Discipline is needed especially nowadays because we need to follow strict rules just not for our safety but also for the safety of others. And most important of all, we must have unity. In this pandemic, we can’t move forward if we’re not all in this together. This pandemic is not just our problem, or just the government’s, it’s everyone’s problem, we’re not alone in this fight. That’s why we must do our part for ourselves, and the people around us.

  1. I agree with everything you said.We Filipinos must work together to overcome this pandemic, because without unity, we would also lack both discipline and determination to fight this pandemic. We Filipinos face a greater threat than the pandemic: ourselves. So, if we don't begin to change ourselves, we won't change this world around us, making it more difficult to end this pandemic.
